Then it’s play time as they climb and explore among a covered wagon, a boat, and even a Model T. Hands-on exploration isn’t only for the children’s museum. Coming soon (date is weatherdependent), visitors can experience historical buildings in an outdoor space known as Heritage Park. Looking for more of a structured experience? With programs like Feed Your Mind, Haunted Tours, Vintage Christmas, and Mardi Gras at The Mead, visitors can engage in experiences year-round. A new program that is worth a little extra attention is called Care of Collections at Home. In the basement of the MCEC, there is a Preservation and Training Laboratory where museum staff can teach program attendees how to preserve and care for historic items. The vision is that this space will one day be a training location for regional museum staff and volunteers to receive training on the preservation of historic pieces.
