Curtains Rise In Yankton By Shauna Marlette The Press & Dakotan It’s awfully rare that a community the size of Yankton has one successful theater, let alone two community based theater companies, a college theater program and a highly successful high school theater department. But that’s just what Yankton enjoys. The historic Dakota Theatre in downtown Yankton is home to the Lewis and Clark Theatre Company (LCTC). The group is entering its 51st season in the community and has an exciting slate of shows planned for the 2012-2013 season, including “The Wicked Witch of Oz,” “Annie,” “Dial ‘M’ For Murder,” “White Christmas” and “The Tender Trap.” With special events planned throughout the year including concerts, comedy shows, business meetings and community events, The Dakota Theatre and LCTC offer something for everyone. Splitting their time between The Dakota Theatre and the Summit Activities Center Theatre is the Yankton Children’s Theatre Company (YCTC). Kicking off its fourth season, YCTC is helping the next generation of Yankton’s talented actors and actresses learn about the stage. Shows planned for 2012 include “No Strings Attached,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Bed Bugs” and “A Christmas To Remember.” The newly renovated Marian Auditorium on the campus of Mount Marty College is home to the MMC theatre department productions.
